On Jan.21, 1161, the New Year’s Day, Koryo envoys congratulated
at the Chin court (Chin shih 5:19b).
On Feb.12, 1161, Koryo envoys to the Chin congratulated on the
birthday of the Dismissed Emperor (Chin shih 5:20a).
In the 8th month (Sep./Oct.) of 1161, the Dismissed Emperor of
Chin sent an Erudite of the Grand Master of Ceremonies to congratu-
late the king of Koryo on his birthday (Chin shih 5:22a).
In the 11th month (Nov./Dec.) of 1161, Emperor Shih-tsung of Chin
sent a Supernumerary Gentleman of the Right Office of the Masters
of Writing to Koryo to announce that he had ascended the throne
on Oct.27 (Chin shih 6:3b-4a). His brother, the Dismissed Emperor,
was murdered by his officers on Dec.15, while campaigning against
the Southern Sung (Chin shih 5:24a).
In the 3rd month (Apr./May) of 1162, a Koryo envoy landed in
Ming and stated that his country wished to resume diplomatic relations
with the Southern Sung. This was reported to the court by the local
officials. The Attending Secretary Wu Fei warned that, since Koryo
and Chin adjoined each other, the request was suspect. The proposal
was thus rejected out of fear that the envoy might be a Jurchen spy
(Sung shih 487:18a; Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 325:53b).
On Feb.5, 1163, the New Year’s Day, Koryo envoys congratulated
at the Chin court (Chin shih 6:10a).
On Apr.4, 1163, Koryo envoys arrived at the Chin court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of Shih-tsung^83 A separate mission at about
the same time congratulated on his enthronement (Chin shih 6:10b).
On May 23, 1163, Shih-tsung sent the Commissioner of Presenta-
tions with gifts to the Koryo court (Chin shih 6:11a).
On Nov.6, 1163, Shih-tsung sent an envoy to congratulate the king
of Koryo on his birthday (Chin shih 6:12b).
On Jan.26, 1164, the New Year’s Day, Koryo envoys congratulated
at the Chin court (Chin shih 6:13a).
On Mar.25, 1164, Koryo envoys to the Chin court congratulated
on the birthday of Shih-tsung (Chin shih 6:13b).
On May 6, 1164, Ming reported to the Southern Sung court that
Koryo had offered gifts. These were rejected (Chin shih 33:13b; 487:
18a;Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 325:53b).
