In the 4th (Apr./May), 6th (June/July), 11th (Nov./Dec.), intercalary
(Dec./Jan., 774), and 12th month (Jan./Feb., 774) of the Chinese year
773, Po-hai and Po-hai Mo-ho envoys offered regional objects (Ts’e-fu
yüan-kuei p.5031, 5032).
In the 1st (Feb./Mar.) and 12th month (Jan./Feb., 775) of the
Chinese year 774, Po-hai envoys were received at the T’ang court
(Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 1st (Feb./Mar.), 5th (June/July), 6th (July), and 12th (Dec/
Jan., 776) month of the Chinese year 775, Po-hai and Mo-ho envoys
offered gifts (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 1st month (Feb./Mar.) of 777, Po-hai envoys presented 11
Japanese dancing girls and regional objects (Chiu T’ang shu 11:25b;
199B:12b;Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032; Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 326:58a).
In the 2nd month (Mar./Apr.) of 777, Po-hai envoys presented
falcons (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 4th (May/June) and12th month (Jan., 778) of the Chinese
year 777, Po-hai and Po-hai Mo-ho envoys offered regional objects
(Chiu T’ang shu 11:26a, 199B:12b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
Immediately after Te-tsung had ascended the T’ang throne on
June 12, 779, he ordered, out of conviction or to make a show of his
modesty, that falcons were no longer to be received from Silla and
Po-hai (Chiu T’ang shu 12:1a-1b).
In the 10th month (November) of 780, Po-hai envoys offered gifts
(Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 5th month (June/July) of 782, Po-hai envoys offered presents
(Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 1st month (Feb./Mar.) of 791, Po-hai envoys were received
at the T’ang court (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 8th month (Sep./Oct.) of 791, a royal son from Po-hai was
received at the T’ang court (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:12b).
In the intercalary month (Jan./Feb., 793) of the Chinese year 792, a
mission of 35 Mo-ho offered gifts (Chiu T’ang shu 13:8a; T’ang hui-yao
196:11b;Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 1st month (Feb./Mar.) of 794, a mission from Po-hai, led by
a royal son and consisting of more than 30 men, was received at the
T’ang court. The prince was made a General of the Guards of the
Right. His subordinates were appointed to offices, each in accordance
