On Apr.3, 918, Uighur envoys to the Khitan court presented coral
trees (Liao shih 1:10a-10b; 70:1b).^98
On May 24, 924, two envoys with a mission of 66 men to the Later
T’ang court presented regional objects, jade, and nine fine horses.
They had been sent by the Uighur ruler of Kan chou, who called
himself Qaghan Who Is Authoritative and Knowledgeable. Emperor
Chuang-tsung summoned the envoys to the palace. He then sent the
Minister of Agriculture and the Junior Court Architect to recognize
the ruler of Kan chou as Qaghan Who Is Brave and Righteous (Chiu
Wu-tai shih 31:9a; 138:4a-4b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5034; Wen-hsien t’ung-
k’ao 347:30a).
In the 9th month (October) of 924, Uighur envoys to the Khitan
court offered gifts (Liao shih 2:5a).
On Nov.30, 924, a Uighur envoy informed the Later T’ang court
that the qaghan of Kan chou had died and had been succeeded by
a younger brother. The latter presented jade lumps, racehorses etc.
(Chiu Wu-tai shih 32:8b; 138:4b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5034;Wen-hsien
t’ung-k’ao 347:30a).
On Dec.21, 924, a Uighur envoy was received at the Later T’ang
court (Hsin Wu-tai shih 5:8a).
On May 6, 925, the Wu-wu-chu Qaghan offered gifts to the Khitan
court (Liao shih 2:5b).
On Mar.15, 926, envoys from Kan chou to the Later T’ang court
annnounced that the qaghan had died and had been replaced by
a new one, whose relation to the ruling house, if any, is unknown.
The envoys offered fine horses (Chiu Wu-tai shih 34:2a; 138:4b; Ts’e-fu
yüan-kueip.5034;Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 347:30a).
On Jan.27, 928, Uighurs offered gifts to the Later T’ang court (Hsin
Wu-tai shih 6:6a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5034)
The new qaghan of Kan chou did not survive for long. He was
succeeded and perhaps overthrown by another Qaghan Who Is
Authoritative and Knowledgable. On Mar.16, 928,^99 a mission of
128 men^100 from him to the Later T’ang court offered gifts. Emperor
Ming-tsung received the envoys in audience and gave them presents, to
each in accordance with his rank. On May 22,^101 Ming-tsung ordered
