On May 16, 1048, Jen-tsung of Sung sent a Supernumerary Gentle-
man of the Ministry of Punishments and the Assistant Commissioner
of the Imperial Larder to recognize Liang-tso as ruler of Hsia (Sung
shih 11:14b; 485:22a).
On Oct.11, 1048, Hsia envoys to the Sung court thanked for the
condolence and sacrifice. On Jan.23, 1049, they thanked for the rec-
ognition (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien pp.1516, 1520).
On Feb.9, 1049, the Liao court discussed whether to resume the
war against Hsia. The envoys who had arrived from that state for
the New Year’s congratulations on Feb.5 were detained (Liao shih 20:
3a; 115:8b).
On Feb.10, 1049, Hsing-tsung of Liao sent envoys to inform the
Sung court that he was attacking Hsia. These envoys were received at
the Sung court on May 1 (Sung shih 11:14b; Liao shih 20:3a; 115:8b).
On July 10, 1049, a Sung envoy presented parting gifts to Hsing-
tsung (Liao shih 20:3b).
On July 22, 1049, Hsia envoys to the Liao court offered gifts. They
were detained (Liao shih 20:3b; 115:8b).
In the 8th month (September) of 1049, a Liao army, other than
the one commanded by the emperor, was defeated by Hsia (Liao shih
115:8b).
At some time in 1049, Hsia envoys informed the Sung court that
Liang-tso’s mother had died. Jen-tsung sent a Gentleman-of-the-Palace
of the Ministry of Punishments and the Assistant Commissioner of
[the Office of] Crafts to condole. Hsia envoys presented testamentary
horses and camels (Sung shih 485:22a).
On Feb.7, 1050, Hsing-tsung of Liao sent envoys to reproach Hsia
(Liao shih 20:4a).
On Apr.7. 1050, Liao envoys informed the Sung court that the
armies had withdrawn from Hsia (Sung shih: 12:1a).
On July 10, 1050, Sung envoys to the Liao court congratulated on
the war against Hsia (Liao shih 20:4b).
On Nov.4, 1050, envoys from Liang-tso’s [step]mother^18 to the
Liao court proposed that the two states return to the prewar status
quo. Hsing-tsung replied that if Hsia sent a trusted official it would
be considered. In the 12th month (Jan./Feb., 1051) of the Liao year
