state had been under Mongol attack since 1211, and Tsun-hsü sought
to turn this to Hsia’s advantage.
In the 7th month (Aug./Sep.) of 1214, a Hsia agent reached Ssu-

Chin. He received no response (Sung shih 39:11a).

On Nov.1, 1221, another Hsia agent reached Ssu-ch’uan in South-

assumed the title of Supreme Emperor (Sung shih 486:23a).
The attempts by Hsia to exploit the weakness of the Chin State

Dec.7, 1224, in order to make peace (Chin shih 17:3a).
In the 9th month (Oct./Nov.) of 1225, peace was concluded between

death of Te-wang (Chin shih 17:5a).
On Dec.13, 1226, Hsia envoys arrived at the Chin court for the
New Year congratulations of Jan.19, 1227. Two days later, on Dec.15, a
goodwill mission from Hsia was also received at the Chin court. Soon
thereafter, Ai-tsung of Chin sent a Palace Grandee to Hsia to condole
and sacrifice (Chin shih 17:5b).
