from Tao-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the New
Year’s Day of Feb.15. They departed on Feb.29 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-
chien ch’ang-pien pp.1735, 1736).
On May 25, 1059, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and from
Tao-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the birthday
of Jen-tsung^164 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1736).
On Jan.31, 1060, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and from
Tao-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the New Year’s
Day of Feb.5 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien pp.1758-1759).
On May 13, 1060, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and from
Tao-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the birthday
of Jen-tsung^165 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1764).
On Jan.19, 1061, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and from
Tao-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the New Year’s
Day of Jan.24 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1777).
On May 3, 1061, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and from
Tao-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the birthday
of Jen-tsung^166 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1781).
On Feb.7, 1062, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and from
Tao-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the New Year’s
Day of Feb.12 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1808).
On Apr.30, 1063, Emperor Jen-tsung died, aged 54, and was suc-
ceeded by a great-grandson of T’ai-tsung. This was Emperor Ying-
tsung. The Empress Dowager of Liao sent two and Tao-tsung six
envoys to condole and sacrifice. They performed that task on Aug.14
(Sung shih 12:20b; 245:1a, 16a; Sung hui-yao kao 5257:57b;Liao shih 22:
1b;Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1841).
In the 4th month (May) of 1063, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung
court to congratulate on the birthday of Jen-tsung^167 (Sung hui-yao kao
5257:57b). They must have set out before the news of Jen-tsung’s
death had reached the Liao court.
On Jan.20, 1066, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of Ying-tsung^168 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.1914).
