On July 10, 1085, Sung envoys to the Liao court presented Shen-
tsung’s testamentary gifts (Liao shih 24:6a-6b).
On Aug.6, 1085, Tao-tsung sent envoys to Sung to congratulate
on the enthronement of Che-tsung. These were received at the Sung
court on Dec.8 (Sung shih 17:4a; Liao shih 24:6b).
On Sep.3, 1085, Sung envoys to the Liao court congratulated on
the birthday of Tao-tsung and on the New Year’s Day of Jan.18,
- On Oct.9, 1085, Sung sent other envoys to the Liao court
(Sung shih 17:3b).
On Jan.2, 1086, a Sung envoy to the Liao court thanked for the
condolence and sacrifice (Liao shih 24:6b).
On Jan.13, 1086, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the New Year’s Day of Jan.18 (Sung shih 17:4b).
On Aug.27, 1086, the birthday of the Sung Grand Empress
Dowager,^188 Liao envoys congratulated at the Sung court (Hsü Tzu-
chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.3607).
On Jan.11, 1087, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of Che-tsung^189 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.3705).
On Feb.1, 1087, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the New Year’s Day of Feb.6 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.3717).
On Aug.9, 1087, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of the Grand Empress Dowager.^190 They
were given a banquet and departed on Aug.19 (Sung shih 17:8b;Hsü
Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien pp.3809, 3816).
On Dec.31, 1087, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of Che-tsung^191 (Sung shih 17:9b; Hsü Tzu-chih
t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.3851).
On Jan.22, 1088, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the New Year’s Day of Jan.27 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.3855).

tival. But it was undoubtedly that of Che-tsung’s grandmother, widow of Ying-tsung,
since these congratulations ceased after her death in 1093.
