On Jan.15, 1092, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of Che-tsung^198 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.4385).
On Feb.5, 1092, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the New Year’s Day of Feb.10 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.4387).
On Aug.14, 1092, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of the Grand Empress Dowager^199 (Hsü
Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.4442).
On Nov.2, 1092, Tao-tsung sent envoys to the Sung court to pre-
sent dried venison (Liao shih 15:4b).
On Jan.3, 1093, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to congratu-
late on the birthday of Che-tsung.^200 They were received in audience
(Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.4475).
On Jan.,25, 1093, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the New Year’s Day of Jan.30 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.4479).
On Sep.26, 1093, the Grand Empress Dowager of Sung, grand-
mother of Che-tsung, died.^201 On Sep.28, Che-tsung sent envoys to
Liao to announce it. These envoys were received at the Liao court
on Nov.11. Tao-tsung immediately responded with envoys to condole
and sacrifice. The Liao envoys were received at the Sung court on
Jan.3, 1094 (Sung shih 17:20a; 242:22a; Liao shih 25:6a).
On Jan.2, 1094, Sung envoys to the Liao court presented the tes-
tamentary gifts of Che-tsung’s [grand]mother (Liao shih 25:6a).
On July 16, 1094, Sung envoys to the Liao court thanked for the
condolence and sacrifice (Liao shih 25:7a).
On Oct.24, 1095, Tao-tsung ordered catapultiers and crossbow
men to teach their skills to Chinese troops (Liao shih 26:1b).

(^201) According to Liao shih, Che-tsung announced the death of his mother, the
Lady Ts’ao. That is an error. The Lady Ts’ao had been the second empress of
Jen-tsung and had died in 1079 (Sung shih 15:24a; 242:16b). The Grand Empress
Dowager who died in 1093 was the Lady Kao, widow of Ying-tsung and grand-
mother of Che-tsung.
