orders on Dec.16, 1182 (Sung shih 35:13a; Chin shih 8:4b).
On Nov.7, 1183, the Deputy Grand Director of the Imperial Clan
and other Chin envoys arrived at the Southern Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of Hsiao-tsung.^53 They had received their
orders on Sep.25, 1182 (Sung shih 35:14b; Chin shih 8:6a).
On Feb.14, 1184, the New Year’s Day, Sung envoys congratulated
at the Chin court. They had received their orders on Oct.11, 1183. On
the same day, Chin envoys congratulated at the Southern Sung court.
They had arrived on Feb.10 (Sung shih 35:14b, 15a; Chin shih 8:7a).
On Apr.13, 1184, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court con-
gratulated on the birthday of Shih-tsung. They had received their
orders on Jan.11 (Sung shih 35:14b; Chin shih 8:7b).
On Nov.25, 1184, the Inspector of the Imperial Treasury and other
Chin envoys arrived at the Southern Sung court to congratulate on the
birthday of Hsiao-tsung.^54 They had received their orders on Sep.13
(Sung shih 35:16b; Chin shih 8:9a).
On June 11, 1184, Shih-tsung arrived in his Supreme Capital. On
Dec.13, he ordered that because the weather there was cold and the
distance to it great, the Southern Sung was not allowed to send envoys
for the New Year’s Day of Feb.2, 1185, and for his birthday on Apr.2.
As a matter of fact, the Southern Sung had already appointed envoys,
for the New Year’s Day on Sep.10 and for the birthday on Nov.14.
(Sung shih 35:16a, 16b; Chin shih 8:8a-8b). But since Chin shih does not
record any congratulations by these envoys, they apparently never set
out or turned back. On May 27, 1185, Shih-tsung left the Supreme
Capital (Chin shih 8:10a).
On Jan.23, 1186, the New Year’s Day, Southern Sung envoys
congratulated at the Chin court. They had received their orders on
Oct.6, 1185. On the same day, a Governor and other Chin envoys
congratulated at the Southern Sung court. They had received their
orders on Dec.8, 1185, and arrived on Jan.19, 1186 (Sung shih 35:17b,
18a;Chin shih 8:11a, 12a).
On Mar.23, 1186, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court con-
gratulated on the birthday of Shih-tsung. They had received their
orders on Dec.6, 1185 (Sung shih 35:18a; Chin shih 8:12a).
