In the 7th month (July/Aug.) of 724, envoys from the king of
“rivijaya (Shih-li-fo-shih) offered two pygmies, one black girl,^135
various musicians, and a five-coloured parrot. The envoy was given a
nominal Chinese title and 100 bolts of silk. The king was appointed
General-in-chief of the Awesome Guards of the Left and presented
with a purple robe and a belt of fine gold (Hsin T’ang shu 222C:5a;
Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5028).
In the 11th month (Nov./Dec.) of 727, envoys from “rivijaya (Fu-
shih) presented a five-coloured parrot (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5028).
In the 12th month (Jan./Feb., 742) of the Chinese year 741, a son
of the king of “rivijaya (Fu-shih) offered regional objects. An edict
ordered that he be given a banquet. He was made King Who Submits
to Righteousness and appointed to a nominal Chinese office. The
last mission during T’ang, presenting regional objects, is recorded for
904, when the chief envoy was appointed to a nominal Chinese office
(Hsin T’ang shu 222C:5a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5029; Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao
332:18a).
On Sep.29, 960, envoys from the king of “rivijaya (San-fo-ch’i^136 )
to the Sung court offered regional objects. They came again on June
19, 961, and in the winter of that year (Sung shih 1:7b, 10a; 489:13a;
Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 332:18a).
On Apr.11, 962, envoys from the king of “rivijaya offered regional
objects. He received white porcelain vessels, red lacquered vessels,
silver vessels, silk brocade, cotton, and horse trappings. On Dec.21
of that year, envoys again offered gifts (Sung shih 1:11b, 13; 489:13a;
Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 332:18a).
On Apr.29, 971, envoys from “rivijaya offered mineral oil (naphta)
and crystal. On May 16, 972, envoys offered regional objects (Sung
shih2:11b; 3:1b; 489:13a; Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 332:18a).
On Apr.11, 974, envoys from the king of “rivijaya offered elephant
tusks, frankincense, rose water, dates, granulated sugar, finger rings
of rock crystal, opaque glass pitchers, and coral trees (Sung shih 3:4b;
489:13a;Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 332:18a).
On Jan.14, 976, envoys from “rivijaya presented regional objects.
They were given caps, belts, [porcelain] vessels, and silk (Sung shih 3:
9a; 489:13a; Wen-hsien t’ung-k’ao 332:18a).
