BPG 2024 Frame by Frame

(Bangkok Photographers) #1

Foreword

After 11 fun and fruitful walks and one themed photo project, we have reached the end of 2024. The Bangkok Photographers have

explored new genres and techniques with the addition of guest models to the walks in November and December. We have visited and

photographed neighbourhoods that date back to the founding of Bangkok and beyond, like Baan Krua in February or Siriraj in August.

We also visited some places that are younger than most of the group’s members, like on our rainy Rama 9 Park walk in May. We even

celebrated Songkran in April, with some braving the water fights on an informal walk down Silom Road. Most importantly, we have all

learnt and developed our photography skills together, frame by frame.

The 35 photographers featured in this fifth edition of the BPG annual photobook showcase the breadth of interests, styles, and talents

across the group. There is Adrian’s striking abstract work on page 18, Waruntorn’s bold minimalism on page 30, Michel’s outstanding

travel photography on page 38, Tatiana’s moving portraits on page 40, and Navarat’s creative composites on page 72 – the list of unique

perspectives among the following pages goes on and on, but that’s what the contents page is for.

By the nature of the group and the regular walks, street photography makes up a substatial proportion of the photos coming up,

though not all of it came from Bangkok’s sois. Narz takes us all over Thailand on page 46, Goran brings us photos from his travels to Nepal

on page 14, Simone’s shots of Italy are on page 24 and you can enjoy Wipharat’s trip to Türkiye on page 54. Bangkok Photographers

Group was named for photographers who were in Bangkok, not necessarily photographers of Bangkok, and we the group has evolved

and expanded across the 13 years since then.

The majority of the photos featured on the right-hand pages after this one are being printed and exhibited at Bangkok’s Photohostel &

Photocafé from March 2025. We hope that you enjoy all of the works in this book and that, like us, you will be inspired to pick up your own

camera – regardless of its size, complexity, or of your experience with using it – and join us on a photowalk around Bangkok some time in

Have fun,

Mark A. Hathaway, Chutima Panjapan, and Ben Reeves.
