The 5th edition of the European
Open University Powerlifting Cup
2024 was held in Nancy, France,
from March 1st to 3rd.
Athletes competed individually
and in teams across six
categories. Individual winners
were determined using the IPF
GL formula, which factors in both
lifted weight and bodyweight.
Marie-Jose Van Daal from
Erasmus University Rotterdam
(NED) took first place in the
women’s competition, followed by
Lea Lucas from Université Paris-
Est Créteil (FRA) in second, and
Valerie Velemanova from Charles
University (CZE) in third.
In the men’s competition, Thomas
Czaplicki from Université Blaise
Pascal (FRA) secured first place,
with Antonio Perez Barros from
Universidad Cardenal Espínola
(ESP) in second, and Aloy Iwunze
from Fontys University of Applied
Sciences Eindhoven (NED) in
third.
Team trophies were awarded to
the top-performing universities.
The University of Ljubljana
(SLO) claimed the top spot in the
women’s team competition with
28 points, followed by Université
Blaise Pascal (FRA) with 21
points, and Charles University
(CZE) with 15 points.
In the men’s team competition,
Université Blaise Pascal (FRA)
took first place with 17 points,
Erasmus University Rotterdam
(NED) secured second with 15
points, and the University of Tartu
(EST) finished third with 13 points.
The three-day event united
student powerlifters dedicated
to both intellectual and physical
development. More than just a
competition focused on records,
the Cup aimed to foster a
generation of intelligent, open-
minded, healthy, and strong
individuals. The event was
held under the auspices of the
European Powerlifting Federation
(EPF) and the France Powerlifting
Federation (FPF), and under
the patronage of the European
University Sports Association
(EUSA), as an open cup.

In 2024, 52 Universities participated in this Cup, bringing to the
competitions 60 male and 37 female lifters in their teams, breaking 11
university cup records with their strenght and prominence in powerlifting.
