BPG 2025 Open | Bangkok Photographers Magazine, Edition #7

(Bangkok Photographers) #1

It’s April again! Time for Songkran, soaring temperatures and a switch to a theme-led BPG project rather

than trying to schedule a walk around the holidays. We wanted to enter into the spirit of the festival without

it restricting brave photographers from posting their shots from the soaked streets of Songkran Day as soon

as possible. A few still made that sacrifice, including Kemal Atli (page 8) and Antonio Navarro (page 60) and

Ketsada UNs (page 92). Instead, our theme is inspired by the cultural core of the celebration – the act of washing

away the acumulated grime of the past year with the first rains of the season, leaving behind a clean slate for the

new year. It’s an opportunity to make changes and try something different.

Being a theme-led project also means that inclusion in Bangkok Photographers Magazine can be open to

everyone in the Bangkok Photographers Facebook group, including members who do not live in Bangkok.

Among those who took advantage of that fact are former BPG leader Greg Rhodes (page 76) and Mia Livingston

(page 52), who joined our November 2024 walk as our first guest model on a walk.

Aside from giving us a chance to see some old friends in the contents list, the open theme allows us to see

some excellent travel photography from regular walkers enjoying Songkran overseas. It means we can see some

of what Mark (page 44) and Mary Hathaway (page 40) get up to during their stateside time and Michel Arnault

(page 4) can flex his favourite genre, all with spectacular results. We also got stunning shots of far-flung places

from Adrian Flint (page 24), Andreas Kuschel (page 48) and Tatiana Mocchetti (page 56).

It’s a complete coincidence that an open theme means I can explain 200 words of introductory text in two

words: “anything goes”.

We received submissions from 25 BPG members around the globe, with all photos exclusively taken

between the 6th and 13th April 2025 with no further restrictions other than the standard rules that apply to

the Facebook Group. We hope you enjoy this fantastic selection of unusually varied shots and that you will

consider joining either a future walk or our next Open.

Have fun,

Mark, Chutima, and Ben.
