payingforGermanyaFrenchdefeatistandAbbasHilmi'sfriendfrom
Egypt,BoloPasha,tenmillionfrancstoacquirefortheReichthe
newspaperLe Figaro.Theex-khedivealsoreceivedalargesumfrom
theGermanstopurchasenewspapersin Italy.However,theschemes
collapsed,becauseAbbasHilmiandhisagentsspentthemoneyun-
wisely,keepinglargeamountsofit forthemselves;"hereturnedonly
