Faysal,theSharifofMecca'sson.IntelligencereportsreachedCairo,
however,thatOppenheim,alongwithotherGermanofficialsin
Haifa,Aleppo,andnorthernSyria,hadencouragedtheTurkishmas-
sacreofArmenians."Simultaneously,Britain'sambassadorinRome,
SirRennellRodd,receivedinformationthatOppenheimhadleft
ConstantinopleforPersiaandAfghanistanonapan-Islamiccrusade,

ments.InformationonhimreachedtheGovernmentofIndia,which
notifieditsembattledarmedforcesinMesopotamiathattheGer-
