Kathmandu, Nepal – Bangkok, Thailand - By Air
After a whirlwind visit to Nepal, Ernest and I found ourselves
navigating through Kathmandu's quiet, shadowy streets. Although our
flight was supposed to leave at 9:00 AM, we soon realised there was
no rush, as our departure was pushed back to 11:15 AM. This gave
us some extra time to relax before bidding farewell to Kathmandu.

Royal Nepal Airlines finally touched down in Bangkok two and a half
hours later, and we stepped out into a world bursting with colour and
sweltering heat—an abrupt change from Kathmandu's cooler, crisp air.
The taxi ride into the touristy heart of Banglamphu was a costly one,
and we arrived at our lively destination, embraced by a whirlwind of
sights, sounds, and an aroma of street food wafting through the air.

Khao San Road, often the first stop for many travellers, buzzed with a
unique energy. Its bars, lively restaurants, and tempting street food
stalls promised an explosion of enticing and intimidating flavours. For
those adventurous enough, Bangkok truly is a culinary paradise!
Ernest, never one to back away from a “smiley” (roasted sheep’s
head in South Africa), dove headfirst into the local cuisine. He
delighted in steaming bowls of Thai noodle soup filled with offal and
other unidentified ingredients.

However, I quickly realised that being a vegetarian in Thailand would
be another adventure altogether. With an array of dishes featuring
meat, I braced myself for a more challenging food journey than I had
experienced in India.
