If, in 1964, I would have been born in Vietnam or in America, I was finding extremes.
Here, these extremes have a middle way, to get to a Whole. In Europe, west Europe, I
could find bad people or stupid people pretty rare, but here during communism there
were perfectly bad and stupid people every step you make real manuals of human dirt.
Every day they were making something bad that you couldn't even imagine. And they
were dozens around me, they were surrounding me no break, all the time.
I was talking about action...at the age of 14 I was already a star, drummer in pop-rock
band, and my colleagues were the children of some important people. My parents were
high qualified workers, so I wasn't really poor but far from the money my other
members of the band had. Other rich children were struggling to get to their entourage
and most of them were not accepted while I was already there. This meant I was able to
move at all levels of the society and I did it with high intensity, with a high volume of
human approach. I was living in two worlds and between them, I was understanding
much more of them than my age required. Communism meant relationships among
people like a Cold War, you couldn't be relaxed, you could get into big troubles because
of the huge network of contributors of the political police, so that even my friend's
parents, who were the high class of the local communists, were talking or let to be
observed the permanent struggle with the danger of purification. I saw a grotesque
phase, but funny also, a guy was talking over the phone with Ceausescu, the communist
president:
- Yes, general secretary companion, of course, general secretary companion.
But this was not the comic part, that guy, although at home, was talking standing without
touching the phone's wire, he leaned toward the table. He was standing in right angle
with his head close to the table.
He could very well be relaxed in his armchair or to pull a little bit the phone's wire, not
to bend, but they guy didn't want anybody to see him talking relaxed with the supreme
commander of anything, even at his place. It seems absurd, but I saw him for example,
his fear was justified.
I met hundreds of people comparing to a common person, because this is how it is in the
showbiz, I was invited at many parties, many times without knowing anybody. About
women...what someone sees in movies I saw and lived in reality, not the exaggerations.
It was the first arrangement, absolutely unlikely, my Trainers did so that I get a complete
education, a vision as a whole of the World. I was living among rich and poor, with
intensity, as danger and as number of situations and people. I felt the arrogance and the
injustice, but I didn't forget who I was although it's very tempting to pretend you hadn't
