Campus and Facilities

A Place to Teach and Learn

The American School of Tangier sits on a 15-acre campus-making it the
most spacious, green, and distinctive educational environments in the
city. While other schools in Tangier are typically confined to urban
blocks, AST offers wide open space, natural light, and room to move,
think, and grow.

Set among trees and gardens, the campus is a place where students
and teachers can focus without distraction-whether learning in a quiet
corner, running across the football pitch, or leading a classroom
discussion.

AST’s learning environment supports a
deliberate shift away from over-reliance on
screens. Instead, students engage through
conversation, written work, physical activity,
and face-to-face connection. It's a calm,
grounded place to work and a spacious,
inspiring place to learn.

A full-size double gymnasium

A 25-metre swimming pool, deep enough for scuba training

8-a-side synthetic football pitch

A dedicated Maker Space for hands-on design and building

Purpose built science and computer labs

Large, high-ceiling classrooms with natural light and ventilation

Outdoor learning zones and shaded reading areas

High-speed WiFi throughout campus

Student Life

Student life at AST is designed to offer both
structure and opportunity beyond the
academic curriculum. We are a founding
member of the Moroccan American Schools
Athletic Conference (MASAC), and students
participate in a range of competitive and
enrichment activities, including:

MASAC Sports:
Football, basketball, volleyball, and swimming

After-School Activities:
Clubs, seasonal events, and creative workshops

Enrichment Opportunities:
These evolve year to year, often shaped by student
interest and faculty expertise, and have included MUN,
drama, robotics, sailing, and cooking.

Globally Minded, Locally

Grounded

AST enrolls approximately 500 students from a wide range
of backgrounds. Around half are Moroccan nationals, while
the remainder come from families involved in diplomatic,
NGO, business, and international work in Tangier.

What unites them is a shared aspiration. Families at AST
are focused on developing responsible, thoughtful
learners with the skills and mindset to succeed at
international universities and beyond.

Though we are a rigorous academic school, AST promises
to “Have Serious Fun.” We encourage our students to
engage fully in the life of the school, to lead with curiosity,
and to find passion in both expected and unexpected
places.
