Portable Paradise pockets prize

The winner of this year’s TS Eliot Prize was A
Portable Paradise by Roger Robinson.
A Portable Paradise is published by Leeds-
based independent Peepal Tree Press, and
includes poems about Robinson’s family
alongside works about black history, Grenfell
Towers and the NHS.
‘There is a wonderful balance of personal and

political in this collection,’ said chair of judges
John Burnside. ‘It is passionate and sociologically
engaged, without being rigorous about it – there
was a strong sense of humanity to the book.’
Previous winners of the prize include Ted
Hughes, Don Paterson, Ocean Vuong and Carol
Ann Duffy.
