Our quilt tester simplifi ed the

palette, making a 20"-square Color

Wheels pillow out of just three

colors. She chose red, white, and

blue prints to add bright spot to a

blue-and-white room. She framed

the block with a 21∕2"-wide fi nished

border to complete the pillow top.

Sew short border strips to
opposite edges of quilt center.
Add long border strips to remaining
edges to complete quilt top. Press all
seams toward border.

Layer quilt top, batting, and
backing; baste. (For details, see
Complete Quilt, page 101.)

Quilt as desired. Using lime green
thread, designer Vicki Ruebel
machine-quilted a floral motif in the
block centers and a loop design in
the star points (Quilting Diagram).
She stitched the remaining block
segments with ribbon candy, arc, swirl,
and chevron patterns, alternating
designs in A and B blocks. She quilted
a ribbon candy pattern in the sashing
rectangles and piano key lines in the
border.
