machine-outline-quilted the
appliqués and stitched along the vines
(Pillow Top Quilting Diagram). She
stitched curved lines in the borders
ASSEMBLE AND ADD BORDERS
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.

Use a pencil to mark a diagonal
line on wrong side of 32 brown
tone-on-tone 2" squares.

Align a marked brown tone-
on-tone square with one end
of a solid cream 2× 31 ⁄ 2 " rectangle
(Diagram 1; note direction of marked
line). Sew on marked line. Trim seam
allowance to^1 ⁄ 4 "; press open attached
triangle. Add a marked brown tone-
on-tone square to opposite end of
rectangle to make a Flying Geese
unit. The unit still should be 2× 31 ⁄ 2 "
including seam allowances. Repeat to
make 16 Flying Geese units total.

Diagram, sew together four
Flying Geese units to make a short
inner border strip. The strip should
be 2× 121 ⁄ 2 " including seam allowances.
Repeat to make a second short inner
border strip. Sew short inner border
strips to opposite edges of pillow
center. Press seams toward inner
border.

Sew together two unmarked
brown tone-on-tone 2" squares
and four Flying Geese units to make
a long inner border strip (Pillow Top
Assembly Diagram). The strip should
be 2× 151 ⁄ 2 " including seam allowances.
Repeat to make a second long inner
border strip. Join long inner border
strips to remaining edges of pillow
center. Press seams toward inner
border.

Sew brown tone-on-tone 2× 151 ⁄ 2 "
outer border strips to opposite
edges of pillow center. Join brown
tone-on-tone 2× 181 ⁄ 2 " outer border
strips to remaining edges to make
pillow top. Press all seams toward
outer border. The pillow top should
be 18^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
allowances.
FINISH PILLOW
