For a quick-to-make 293∕4× 34 " wall
quilt, sew together four Happy
Surprises blocks with the red,
white, and black prints in the same
positions. Frame the blocks with a
1"-wide fi nished inner border and
3"-wide fi nished outer border.

ASSEMBLE AND
ADD SASHING STRIPS

Referring to Diagram 4, sew
together a solid white small
triangle and an assorted bright tone-
on-tone, print, or polka dot medium
triangle. Add a second solid white
small triangle to make a Flying Geese
unit. The unit should be 2^5 ∕ 8 × 43 ∕ 4 "
including seam allowances.

Repeat Step 1 to make 12 Flying
Geese units total.

Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram, sew together two solid
white 2^5 ∕ 8 × 43 ∕ 4 " rectangles, six Flying
Geese units, and five solid white
25 ∕ 8 ×9" rectangles to make a sashing
strip. Press seams toward solid white
rectangles. The strip should be 2^5 ∕ 8 ×7 7"
including seam allowances. Repeat to
make a second sashing strip.

Add sashing strips to short edges
of quilt center, carefully matching
Flying Geese units with triangles in
blocks. Press seams toward sashing
strips.
ADD BORDER
Sew solid white 2× 893 ∕ 4 " border strips
to long edges of quilt center. Add solid
white 2×80" border strips to remaining
edges to complete quilt top. Press all
seams toward border.
FINISH QUILT
