CUT FABRIC
From blue print, cut:
▫ 3—2^1 ⁄ 2 ×42" binding strips

CUT AND ASSEMBLE A BLOCKS
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.
The following instructions result
in one A block. Repeat cutting and
assembly steps to make 13 A blocks
total.

From one blue shirting, cut:
▫ 1—2^1 ⁄ 2 " square
▫ 4—1^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
From one light shirting, cut:
▫ 1—3^1 ⁄ 4 " square
▫ 4—1^1 ⁄ 2 " squares

Use a pencil to mark a diagonal
line on wrong side of each blue
shirting 1^7 ⁄ 8 " square.

Align marked blue shirting
squares with opposite corners of
light shirting 3^1 ⁄ 4 " square. Referring to
Diagram 1, sew a scant^1 ⁄ 4 " from drawn
lines on both sides of lines. Cut apart
on drawn lines to make two triangle
units (Diagram 2); press open.

Align a marked blue shirting
square with light shirting corner
of a triangle unit. Sew a scant^1 ⁄ 4 "
from drawn line on both sides of line
(Diagram 3).

Cut apart on drawn line
(Diagram 4); press open to make
two Flying Geese units. Each unit
should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 11 ⁄ 2 " including seam
allowances.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 with
remaining triangle unit to make
four Flying Geese units total.

Sew together light shirting 1^1 ⁄ 2 "
squares, Flying Geese units, and
blue shirting 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square in three
horizontal rows (Diagram 5). Join rows
to make an A block; press seams in
one direction. The block should be 4^1 ⁄ 2 "
square including seam allowances.

To reduce bulk, clip up to seam
lines through both layers of
seam allowances^1 ⁄ 4 " on each side
of seam intersections (clips will be
(^1) ⁄ 2 " apart). Press outside sections of
seam allowances toward light print
squares and center sections of seam
allowances toward blue print squares.
Press intersections open to create tiny
Four-Patches (Diagram 6).
CUT AND ASSEMBLE B BLOCKS
The following instructions result in one
B block. Repeat cutting and assembly
steps to make 12 B blocks total.
From one light shirting, cut:
▫ 1—2^1 ⁄ 2 " square
▫ 4—1^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
From one red shirting, cut:
▫ 1—3^1 ⁄ 4 " square
▫ 4—1^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
