immigrant,hersenseof lonelinessand

dividedidentity.

‘Winningthisawardstillfeelslikea dream,’

said Yang. ‘I am glad not only because I’ve

won,butalsobecausenowI knowI’mnotthe

onlypersonwholikesmyimages.I’mhappy

myphotographshavebeenenjoyedbyothers,

somehowtheydon’tseemaslonelyanymore.’

Hewillreceivet12,000worthof Zeisslenses

aswellast3,000tocoverthecostof hisnext

photographyproject.

Nineotherphotographerswereshortlisted

fortheZeissPhotographyAwardthisyear,

includingtwofromtheRussianFederation.

Owingtothecoronaviruspandemic,the

awardceremony–whichis partof theSony

WorldPhotographyAwards– hasbeen

postponeduntilfurthernotice,alongwiththe

exhibitionthathadbeen scheduled to open in

London in April.
