The Bong Show: Inside the
K-Poppiest Party of Oscar Night
It was planned as an intimate viewing
dinner followed by a modest after-
party. But right around when Bong
Joon Ho picked up his second trophy,
signaling the beginning of what would
snowball into a Parasite sweep, the
text messages started flying around
town. By 8:30 p.m., Soho House Sunset
was mobbed. Guests waited upward
of 90 minutes to gain entrance. Once
admitted, partygoers were served
bulgogi rice rolls and gochujang
hummus as the K-pop group A.C.E
played BTS covers and a vortex of
selfie seekers mobbed Parasite pro-
ducer Miky Lee as Neon chief To m
Quinn looked on. But the party didn’t
really get going until guest of honor
Bong arrived at 12:45 a.m. Star Song
Kang-ho stood on a chair, waving one
of the film’s four Oscars as the crowd
chanted, “Bong Joon Ho!” The frenzy
lasted till about 1:30, when Bong and
his Parasite posse ducked out to head
to Soban in Koreatown to continue
the all-night drinking he mentioned
onstage. — REBECCA SUN AND CHRIS GARDNER
Anxious Oscar-Goers Score CBD
Products in Dolby Bathrooms
Oscar guests with aches or anxiety
— and there was plenty of the latter
going around — could dip into the
Dolby Theatre’s restrooms for a helpful
remedy: samples of Lord Jones’ can-
nabidiol (CBD) products like a “stiletto
cream” (to ease the pain of high heels).
“Meeting in the ladies room,” Once
Upon a Time in Hollywood costume
designer Arianne Phillips posted on
Instagram, along with a picture of one
of the lotions. Another Oscar guest
grabbed a palm full of the oil and
smoothed it over her cleavage.
Jojo’s Archie Yates Takes Home
Something Tastier Than a Statue
After a long awards season spent
campaigning on behalf of his film,
Jojo Rabbit’s 10-year-old breakout
Archie Yates was ready for a drink
by the show’s first commercial break.
He sidled up to the bar, ordered an
orange juice and then scooped up a
handful of Hershey’s kisses, passing
them to his mom, Julie, to put in her
handbag. Before heading back into the
show, Yates — who’ll next be starring
in Disney+’s Home Alone reboot —
politely paused to take some selfies
with fans. Total professional.
