CHAPTER 2. POLSKA

  1. F. Dvornik, The Making of Central and Eastern Europe (London, 1949), 14. Konrad
Jazdzewski, Ancient Peoples and Places: Poland (London, 1965), summarizes the Polish
hypothesis, which is preceded by an interesting survey of the development of Polish
    archaeology.

  2. Marija Gimbutas, Bronze Age Cultures in Central and Eastern Europe (The Hague,
1965). This author's other study The Slavs (London, 1971), Ancient Peoples and Places,

Oder-Vistula region during the first two centuries of our era (Miami, 1975).

  4. Mortimer Wheeler, Rome beyond the Imperial Frontiers (London, 1955). The richest
find of Roman imports in 'Free Germany' was made at the burial site of five barbarian
chieftains near Lubsow (Lubowo) in Pomerania.

  5. Tacitus, 'Germania' in Tacitus on Britain and Germany, translated by H. Mattingly
    (Penguin Books, London, 1948), 101-40.

Labuda, Zrodla, Sagi i Legendy do najdawniejszych dziejow Polski (Warsaw, 1961),
contains studies of Alfred the Great, the Gotho-Hunnic wars, the Widsith, and the
    Chanson de Roland.
