Wind Walkers: Theo Jansen’s Strandbeestsis the Dutch sculptor’s

first Southeast Asian exhibition, held at the ArtScience Museum.

Constructed from everyday materials like plastic piping and bottles,

Jansen’s Strandbeests—Dutch for “beach animals”—are self-

propelled, wind-powered machines originally engineered to address

the threat of flooding caused by rising sea levels by pushing and

piling sand to form natural barriers along the shore. Visitors will get to

walk with and experience the lifelike movement of 13 of these kinetic

creatures. There will also be feature films, sketches and prototypes

documenting their evolution over the last 28 years.
