That quiet respite you so desperately crave is now but a stone’s
throw away. Luxury hotel brand, Six Senses, known for its lush
retreats in far-fl ung locations, has opened a city hotel for the
fi rst time in the eclectic streets of Tanjong Pagar. The original
19 th-century row of shophouses along Duxton Road has been
reimagined into a diverse mix of Chinese, Malay and European
elements, dressed in opulent black
and gold hues by acclaimed
British designer Anouska
Hempel. The urban oasis
also includes in-house
Traditional Chinese
Medicine physicians,
complimentary daily
tinctures comprising
Chinese herbs, and
community-based
activities such as walking
tours and outdoor yoga.
Located in Mayfair, mere minutes
away from London’s famous
shopping haven, Selfridges,
The Beaumont is a treasure
as exquisite as the historical,
Neoclassical-style building it
resides in. The brainchild of
restaurateurs Chris Corbin and
Jeremy King, the hotel boasts
73 rooms, one of which is a
conceptual suite by British
sculptor Antony Gormley that is
aptly named “ROOM” and comes
outfitted with a giant jigsaw-
like facade. And even though
The Beaumont is steps away
from one of London’s busiest
streets, the property achieves a
feeling of intimacy through the refined use of polished
rosewood, elegant bronze mirroring details, and
graphic checkerboard flooring. The overall efect is a
stellar meld of the traditional and contemporary—with
just the right hints of Art Deco thrown into the mix.
