PHOTOGRAPHER
BEN WELLER

This was a dream
assignment. It was a
challenge because I had a
lot of distance to cover and
couldn’t always wait for
the best light or the nicest
weather. But that’s all part
of the fun of photography
— working with what you
have. I came away with a
strong set of images that I
hope will inspire people to
visit Tohoku.

Trains are the way
to do this trip. You
can relax and take in the
scenery. It enabled me to
cover far more distance
and see even more of the
region. If you’re travelling
from outside Japan, you
can get the JR EAST
PASS, which will save you
a significant amount of
money on train travel.
