FISU AMERICA


As coordinators of the efforts of the university sport organisations across the


American continent, FISU America’s main objective over 2019 was to promote


the overall development of student-athletes in the region through competitive


sport and academic activities, representing the region as a branch of FISU. 


Ordinary Assembly of the
CADE-Panam Sports alliance


In February, and in the context
of the Ordinary Assembly of the
CADE, the President and the
authorities of FISU America met
with Mr Neven Ilic, President
of Panam Sports, an entity
which groups all the Olympic
committees of America and is
responsible for the organisation
of the Pan-American Games.
The main outcome of the
meeting was an agreement to
increase the number of athletes
with tertiary studies.


17 th Central America and
Caribbean Games


The 17th Central America and
Caribbean University Games
were organised in Tunja,
Colombia. Seven countries
contended eleven sporting


disciplines. This competition
was important to promote
university sports in the area.

2 nd Strategic Dialogue
FISU-FISU America
On May 21 and 22, the NUSF
of America met in Bogota to
discuss the future of university
sports in the continental
federation. In this second
edition of the Strategic Dialogue
FISU-FISU America, sixteen
countries from America as
well as representatives from
EUSA, AUSF and FISU formed
part of this event in which they
discussed the main topics and
challenges that university sports
faces. Topics of discussion
included gender equality,
IDUS, growth of national and
continental university leagues

and the importance of combining
exercise with study.

31 st Summer Universiade
The 31st Summer Universiade in
Napoli was a great competition
for FISU America, with twelve
countries represented, 100
medals won and hundreds of
student-athletes taking part.
USA obtained 53 medals and
Mexico 21, with both ending in
the top 10 medal board overall.
Trinidad and Tobago won its
first medal ever in a Summer
Universiade, adding a silver to
the America’s total.

3 rd FISU America 3x3
The 3rd edition of FISU America
3x3 was carried out in Maceio,
Brazil, from 8-10 August. The
best 10 male and 13 female
teams on the continent took

part, playing for a place in the
FISU University World Cup 3x3.
Seven countries participated,
represented in the male
competition by UNIP (BRA),
Universidad de Chile (CHI) and
UNLaM (ARG), and in the female
competition by ITESM (MEX),
Universidad de Chile (CHI) and
PUCV (CHI), who earned their
tickets to China.

FISU Volunteer
Leaders Academy
Sixteen American countries
and the CUSF’s representatives
participated in the FISU
Volunteer Leaders Academy
from September 5-11. The
FISU Ambassadors shared
ideas, worked in groups and
learned a great deal about the
organisation of a sport event.
They also had time for games,
