The International Day of
University Sport is a very
important day for the university
sports, with universities from
every corner of the continent
celebrating the event with
colourful celebrations, festivals
and activities for the students
and their families in the facilities
of their universities.
First FISU America Futsal
The very first edition of FISU
America Futsal was carried
out in Posadas, Argentina.
Universities from Argentina,
Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico
and Peru participated in the first
Pan-American tournament of
Futsal, where ten male teams
and six female teams played for
the trophy. In the end, the ladies
team from ITESM (MEX) and the
men’s team from UNLaM (ARG)
were crowned champions in
their respective categories.
UWC 3x3
In the FISU University World Cup
3x3 in Xiamen, China, the teams
that qualified from the FISU
America 3x3 represented the
region well with their amazing
plays and exhibitions of skills
during the tournament. The
male team of UNIP(BRA) who
had emerged victorious on the
continent also proved to be the
best team on the planet, raising
the trophy to demonstrate
America’s 3x3 strength.UWC Football
The most popular sport on the
planet, football, enjoyed its
first FISU University World Cup
in Jinjiang, and did a superb
job in representing America in
the competition. Two women’s
teams from the continent were
present and not only enjoyed
a great tournament, but both
made it to the final where the
University of Ottawa (CAN)
beat UNIP (BRA), bringing
back both the gold and silver
medals to America. In the male
competition, three teams took
part, with UNIP ending in the
top8, while the Universidad
Autonoma del Estado de México
(MEX) achieved a semi-finalspot, losing against the eventual
tournament winners, the
Universidad de la Republica
from Uruguay. America loves
football, and with two world
champions, has shown that the
sport is being played at a very
high level.2 nd FISU America Games
After the great success in the
1 st FISU America Games in
Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2018, and
after defining university sport
competitions for the year 2020,
FISU America chose the city
of Merida, Mexico to host the
2 nd edition of the FISU America
Games. The decision was made
by the committee of the CUSF
to keep developing university
sport in the area, and following
the immense effort by Mexican
Federation CONDDE in recent
years, they were given the
honour of organising the 2020
Games on Mexican soil. This
kind of competition ensures
university sport keeps growing
