Arriving in March and staying to August,
majestic whale sharks congregate around
Ningaloo Reef to take advantage of an
abundance of plankton. You can take
tours to swim and snorkel alongside
them from both Exmouth and Coral
Bay, led by a guide and following strict
instructions from the WA Department of
Environment and Conservation.

Elliot Island
On Lady Elliot, at the
southern reaches of the
Great Barrier Reef, baby
green and loggerhead
turtles emerge in their
thousands from nests in
the sand from February
to April. At the island’s Eco
Resort, you may experience this
at night in the sand dunes right in front
of your accommodation, and also swim
among turtles during the day.
