globalfishstocksarenowclassedas
‘overfished’, meaning that if we continue fishingatthesamelevels,thesepopulationswill
decline.Mostoftherestarebeingexploitedat
themaximumlevelsthatcanbesustained
withoutlong-termdecline.Fishingalsohas
negativeimpactsonnon-foodspeciesinthe
ecosystem,andpollutesthewaterswithfishing
waste.Temporaryfishingbansmayhelpto
alleviatesomeoftheworstimpacts,butwhat
