STAR LETTER
A rail good time
Four years ago, inspired by many articles
and tips in your magazine, we travelled as
a family of four with children aged 11 and 9
from Manchester to Barcelona by train. We
stopped in London and Paris, discovering
hidden gems such as the Joséphine Baker
Pool and the Jardin d’Acclimatation before
boarding the night train. We spent a week
around Argèles Plage and the beautiful
harbour village of Collioure, then went to
Barcelona. Tom Chesshyre’s ‘No-fl y travel’
article (December 2019) has spurred us to
plan another train trip, this time to Portugal.
Again, via Paris and then onwards by train-
hotel to Lisbon and then up to Porto. Our
only challenge now is to stick to our itinerary
and not get distracted by all the other
possibilities! HELEN BESWICK

Life’s a beach
Your Vietnam cover story (Jan/Feb 2020) got
me reminiscing about the gap year I took a
couple of years ago a• er fi nishing university.
Ha Long Bay is incredible, but so much of
northeast Vietnam is also worth discovering.
One of my favourite spots is Quan Lan Island
— a laid-back, impossibly perfect paradise
with some of the most beautiful, unspoilt
beaches I’ve ever seen. ALEX WOODMAN

Delta dreams
I was so inspired by Emma Gregg’s piece
on the Okavango Delta (Jan/Feb 2020) that
my wife and I have just booked a safari in
Botswana as our big trip for 2020. It’ll be my
second time in southern Africa, having done
Kruger National Park and the Garden Route
in the 1990s, but it’ll be my wife’s fi rst, and
we couldn’t think of a better destination to
discover. We just can’t wait to experience it
all in real life. LESLEY LEONARD
