PLASTIC BAN: MAKING THE CASE
British Airways has announced a new target to remove more than
700 tonnes of single-use plastic on board its flights this year. This
amounts to more than a quarter of a billion individual items of
plastic, equivalent to more than 30,000 suitcases full of single-use
plastic. To mark the move, the carrier commissioned eco-artist
Sarah Turner to create a giant suitcase made from a thousand
pieces of waste plastic, including 160 spoons, more than a dozen
stirrers, drinks lids, plastic wrap, bubble wrap, catering dishes and
covers, and bottles. The sculpture is on display at British Airways’
London Heathrow headquarters.

recently partnered with the local council to launch
a new orchard in Malvern Park. The Voco St
John’s Community Orchard was completed with a
community planting day that saw local volunteer
groups, families and residents take part. The
apple and plum orchard is open all year round
and supports the council’s “Urban Forestry”
strategy to benefit the health and wellbeing of
Solihull’s residents.
