country at present, and a “Post-American World” is impossible in the
coming decades.^16 “American decline” is only an illusion; it will be hard
for China to become the next global hegemon. Facing the new changes to
world power in the twenty-first century, we should integrate hard power
with soft power, and implement the smart power strategy.
Based on Nye’s analyses above, from the perspective of “soft power,”
although America is facing huge challenges including financial crisis, it is
still far from real decline. From China's Perspective, we cannot ignore
America’s ability to self- recover. Even if China does have the intention to
challenge or even overtake American hegemony, in fact, it still has a long
way to go.
