PHFI, AXA team up to combat NCDs
AXA, a French multinational
insurance firm, is undertaking
a project as part of it Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR)
initiative with Public Health
Foundation of India (PHFI) on
‘Implementing a setting-based
health promotion intervention for
prevention and control of non-
communicable diseases (NCDs)’.
The project involves implementing
innovative behaviour change
interventions on NCD prevention
and control in multiple settings
including schools, colleges and
workplaces- across all age groups.
The study is guided by a multi-
disciplinary advisory committee
including experts from WHO,
academic institutions, NGOs
and government representatives.
According to Global Burden of
Diseases, NCDs, including cancer,
heart disease, chronic lung disease
and diabetes, pose huge health
and economic burden in India
and account for 6.4 million deaths
every year. Hence, the urgent
need to augment efforts to prevent
NCDs in all settings and across
age groups, since most NCDs
are related to living habits and
unhealthy choices like tobacco
consumption.
Meghalaya
approves
health plan
The Meghalaya cabinet
has approved the
implementation of
Meghalaya Health
Insurance Scheme (MHIS)
phase-IV, converging
with the health protection
scheme of the Centre,
which was launched
under Ayushman Bharat
Programme. After the
cabinet meeting chaired
by chief minister Conrad
K. Sangma at the main
secretariat in Shillong,
health minister A.L. Hek
informed that the MHIS
phase-IV has been approved
and the health coverage
is upto Rs 5 lakh per year
per household. According
to Hek, the MHIS phase
IV implementation would
cover all citizens of the
state except government
employees. The scheme
would cover various
tests and investigation of
sickness too.
With the aim of augmenting
relations with Taiwanese science
parks, the Karnataka Innovation
and Technology Society (KITS),
India has signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) with
Taiwan’s Hsinchu Science Park
Bureau and the Central Taiwan
Science Park Bureau.
The tie-up will focus on
enhancing research and
development in the areas of
artificial intelligence and robotics.
The Taiwanese Ministry of Science
and Technology has announced a
future amount of Rs 20 crore to be
invested in robotics research.
KITS was established in
2000 as a society under the
Karnataka Societies Registration
Act, to achieve the Millennium
Information Technology Policy
objectives. KITS assists the
Department of Information
Technology and Biotechnology
in enabling and upholding the
Information Technology and
Biotech sectors in the state.
