Ramnath Subbaraman, M.D., a Tufts University
School of Medicine assistant professor of public health
and community medicine, is one of 18 early-career
physician scientists selected
to receive a Doris Duke
Charitable Foundation
2018 Clinical Scientist
Development Award. Dr
Subbaraman researches
tuberculosis and social
determinants of health in
India. Dr Subbaraman’s
work aims to find and retain
India’s missing TB patients
through analyses of the
care cascade and geospatial
mapping. The care cascade
for TB includes patient access to a means of diagnosis
and treatment, the initiation of treatment after a TB
diagnosis, retention during treatment, and recurrence-
free survival following completion of treatment. Dr
Subbaraman is also an attending physician in the
Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious
Diseases at Tufts Medical Centre.

Slayback Pharma LLC, a privately held
pharmaceutical research and development
company, has announced the appointment of
Dr Girish Jain as Senior Vice President and
Head of Global R&D. Dr Jain will be based
out of Slayback’s Hyderabad, India office.
Dr Jain is a highly accomplished scientist
and a veteran in the field of Pharmaceutical
Research and Development. He is widely
recognized in India for his R&D leadership.
He has successfully led the development and
filing of more than 225 ANDAs with USFDA,
across various dosage forms and over 75
different products with Europe and Australia.
He is also the lead inventor in scores of
granted patents. His experience straddles both
the innovative and generic pharmaceutical
research space. Dr Jain has had a stellar
leadership track record in the industry. Prior
to joining Slayback, he was President and
Head of R&D at Alkem for the last four years.
Earlier, he served for 10 years at Wockhardt
where he was the Senior Vice President and
Head of R&D in his last position.

Apollo Hospitals founder-chairman Dr
Prathap C Reddy was conferred with the Lions
Humanitarian Award for his work in increasing
accessibility and affordability healthcare to
bring it within the economic and geographic
reach of millions.
At a function held in New Delhi recently,
Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare
Ashwini Kumar Choubey presented the award
to Dr Prathap C Reddy. He is the fifth Indian and
second doctor to be conferred with this honour.
The Lions Humanitarian Award is the
highest honour of the Lions Club International
Foundation given to an individual or an
organisation with exemplary humanitarian
efforts. The occasion also saw the launch
of the Lions Apollo Healthcare Partnership
Programme (LAHPP). This coordinated Health
Care programme for the under privileged
would be run by the Lions Club International
Foundation in collaboration with the Apollo
Group of Hospitals.
