Kerala has received
international recognition for its
effective prevention measures
against Nipah virus outbreak.
The Institute of Human Virology
(IHV) in Baltimore recently
honoured Chief Minister
Pinarayi Vijayan and Health
Minister K K Shylaja for the
government’s efforts in curbing
the outbreak.
Noted bio-medical scientist
and co-founder of the institute
Dr Robert C Gallo presented
awards to the Chief Minister
and the Health Minister.
The reception accorded to
the Chief Minister and the
Health Minister is the biggest
recognition that the state has
ever received in the health
sector.
It’s for the first time the
institute is honoring a people’s
representative. The globally-
acclaimed institution decided to
honour the state after detailed
analysis on the measures taken
by Kerala following Nipah virus
attack.

the appointment of Anitha Venkat as the company’s new Senior
Director. In this new role, Anitha will be responsible for building
mfine’s hospital and doctor network across India. The company
is planning to achieve over 100,000 consultations by the end of
2018 and is looking to build a network of 1000 hospitals over the
next 12-18 months. In a career spanning over 25 years, Anitha was
a key senior management executive at Lifecell International, the
world’s largest repository of stem cell units. During her decade
long stint at Lifecell, she
spearheaded and helped
grow the company and
managed business in 50
cities across India. Prior
to Lifecell, Anitha was a
senior management team
member in the financial
services industry and
was responsible for new
premium income, renewal
business, new customer
acquisition, corporate tie-
ups, manpower expansion,
retention and overall agency
business development.
Anitha has a master’s
degree in science from Birla
Institute of Technology &

Soans has been selected as
one of the recipients of the
prestigious “Outstanding
Asian Paediatrician Award
2018” instituted by the
Asia Pacific Paediatric
Association (APPA). The
award is being given in
recognition of the recipients’
outstanding contribution
to the field of paediatrics.
Along with India, Asia Pacific
Paediatric Association has
26 countries, including
Australia, Japan, China,
New Zealand, Hong Kong,
Singapore and Malaysia.
Dr Soans, who is national
president of the Indian
Academy of Paediatrics, is
the third Indian so far to
receive the award. The award
will be given on August 28
at Peninsula Island in Nusa
Dua-Bali, Indonesia. A native
of Kundapur, Dr Soans is an
alumnus of Kasturba Medical
College, Mangaluru and
Manipal. He is now serving
AJ Institute of Medical
Sciences, Mangaluru, as
Professor and Head of the
Department of Paediatrics.
