Washington, DC,onNovember 12, 1923, the
daughter of BelleT.and LudoC.Pickett. In
DC,Mary attended CentralHigh School where
she wasamemberofAlpha Chapter,Beta
Mu Sorority. Subsequently,shereceived her
degree from Stratford Hall, StratfordCollege in
Danville,VA.Atgraduation,shereceivedthe
school’shighest award, the “JamesT.Catlin
CitizenshipAward.”After college,Mary joined
the Department of Defense at the Pentagon,
retiring in 1978 with 33 years of service.
During her time with the DoD,Mary received
numerous Outstanding PerformanceAwards
and became Chief of the Administrative Divi-
sion,DefenseTelephone Service.
MarymarriedRichardWallace Bagby,her hus-
band of 50 years,onAugust 12, 1966, inFairfax,
VA.They weremembers of the Pinecrest
CommunityinAnnandale,VA, and later
enjoyed time at SouthernShores,Kitty Hawk,
NC.Mary,acard lover,played Bridge quite
oftenand enjoyed completing crossword puz-
zles.
Maryissurvived by daughter Linda Gail (Bagby)
Koch of Lexington,NC; son-in-law Steven
Richard Jelinek; four grandchildren: Merrill
(Jelinek) Ridgway,Adam Jelinek,Tatum Jelinek,
and Cody Jelinek; and two great-grandchildren,
Hadley and Haden Ridgeway,all of Northern
Virginia, as well as niecesand nephews.She
was predeceased by her husband Richard,
daughter BarbaraElaine (Bagby) Jelinek, and
four siblings:Fred Pickett,FrancesP.Clark,
DorothyP.Porch and Margaret “Tommie”P.
Carpenter.

Maryland. Mr.Carlson was the belovedhus-
bandofMary Ann Carlson (2007), father of
Lynn Marie CrawfordofOlney,Maryland,Laura
Ann Harris of Adamstown, Maryland and Eric
David Carlson of ShermanOaks,California. He
is the grandfather of Justin E. Harris,Trevor
E. Harris,Matthew E. Harris,Spencer Miller-
Carlson, SamanthaMiller-Carlson, Christopher
Charles Bradford andKenneth Lee Bradford.
Mr.Carlsonisalsosurvivedbyhisfivegreat-
grandchildren.
Mr.Carlson was bornJanuary 2, 1928 in
Birmingham Alabama to Eric Carlsonand
Vernie Sommers.The family moved toWash-
ington, DC during the height of the Depression
to be closer to work opportunities,and a
steady income for the family.Mr. Carlsongrew
up on Capitol Hill and attended EasternHigh
School where he met the love of his life
and future wife of 58 years,Mary AnnPace.
Afterserving two years in the United States
Armyaspartofthe occupation forces of
Japan afterWorldWarII, Mr.Carlson returned
toWashington, DC where he and his wife
MaryAnnraised three children in Northwest
Washington while Mr.Carlson builtasuccessful
homeremolding business.Over the next 50
years Mr.Carlson workedasasenior executive
at Clark Construction (formally The George
Hyman Construction Company) and was the
founder and CEO of the Carlson Construction
Company from 1980till 2005.
Mr.Carlson’spassions wheretending to his
small farm in Germantown, remodeling
projects and traveling the world whenever
possible.Hehadatrue adventurer’sheart, was
adevote member of Darnestown Presbyterian
Church and remainedagenerous spirt till the
end of his life.
Mr.Carlson was compassionately and lovingly
caredfor by the angelic caregivers atTran-
quility ofFredericktowne,especially Linda. Mr.
Carlson died asaresult of Alzheimer’sDisease.
He was predeceased in death by his two
sisters,Fay Boss and BarbaraHolland.
Because of the ongoing Coronavirus situation,
asmall family burial service will be held at
Darnestown PresbyterianChurch.The family

Service in Uganda for 11 years.John
was then accepted into Stanford University
where he gained his PhD and was sub-
sequently recruitedinto theWorld Bank,
Washington DC in 1970 where he worked
as an agricultural economistfor over 20
yearsondevelopment projects in Africa,
East Asia and thePacific.Onretirement,
John’spassion led to his secondcareer
as an architectural photographer,which
resulted in numerous publications in books
and journals.John served asaTrustee of
the AmericanFarm School in Thessaloniki,
Greece for over 15 years.Johnis survived
by his wife of 46 years,Laura, children
Roger and Karen and grandchildren Ben-

He was awarded PGA membership in 1978

48 years he dedicated his life to the members
and staff at BrettonWoods.Over that time,

to “the game ofalifetime”. He conceived
of and led many members on golf trips
to Maine,Myrtle Beach, Williamsburg and
Orlando.These trips fostered relationships
and stories that will lastalifetime.
Jim was an avid hunter and belonged to Izaak
Walton League for many years.Heespecially
enjoyed hunting and hours of banter with his
dear friend Abe.
Jim was all about family.Hemade his father
proud by becoming the patriarch of his
family for the last 22 years.Hecontinued
many family traditions such as the annual
family trip to Capon Springs&Farms,hosting
holiday and family birthday parties,and his
love of golf was shared with his family.Like
his father,Jim’sgreatest role in life was
the role of father to his sons.His fatherly
influence did not end with his two sons,he
shared his fatherly love,devotion, and advice
with all his nieces and nephews.
Jim was one ofakind. His prankster behavior
was evident in every photo and his kind heart
was evident in his infectious smile.Heloved
to play jokes on friends and colleagues,he
loved people,lobsters,popcorn, blueberry
pie and his dogs.Jim lived life every day.

Cancer.Beloved wifeofPaulPinsky and
mothertoSarah and Laura. She is also
survived by her mother,Dorothy Rothgeb,
sistersJennifer and Jill (Strickland) and
brotherFrank, along with other relatives.
Agraduate of Elizabeth Seton High School,
she went on to earn degrees from Univ.of
MD,Johns Hopkins and GeorgeWashington.
Early in her career,Joan coached her girls'
basketball team toaMDstate champi-
onship.Joan wasalifelongeducator who
retired as Director of Special Education for
P. G.Countyschools.Asupporter of the
Univ.ofMDanditssports,shewasalsoan
avid tennis player.AcelebrationofJoan's
life will be scheduledatalater date.In

WILLIAM FRANCIS SHEEHAN
WilliamFrancis Sheehan, born October 12,
1928, passedaway peacefully afteralong
illness on March 17, 2020. Bill was bornand
raised inWashington, DC,and graduated
from GeorgeWashington University and
The Catholic University of America law
school.Aveteran ofWorldWarII, he was
proud to beamemberofthe United States
Marine Corps.Heserved asaSpecial Agent
of theFederal Bureau of Investigation and
later workedinthe insurance industry as
aseniorexecutive,managing legal claims
until retirement in 1991.
Bill wasthe oldest of threechildren born
to the late John and WinifredSheehan. His
brother,Frank, and sister,Margaret prede-
ceased him. He was the belovedhusband
of Marcella (nee Cairney)for 65 years.
Bill will forever be remembered by his
devotedchildren, Daniel Sheehan(Denise),
Mary Elizabeth Whelan (John), KathleenLilly
(David),Jennifer Graham(David),Jacqueline
Cassidy (James),and Brendan Sheehan
(Kristy).Hetreasured his 18 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren, along with
countless other friends and family who
were blessedtoknow him.
In addition to spending time with his family,
Bill wasanavid golferand traveled often
with Marcella. He also loved playingthe
sport of baseball in his youthand watching
it as he aged. He wasalifelongmember
of the Knights of Columbus and wasPast
Grand KnightofCouncil 1695.
Billtouchedthelivesofmanypeoplewith
his wisdom,Catholic faith, and generosity.
He maintained his trademark sense of
humor all the way to the end.Services
will be determined.
