Frozen solid

Farmers might leave fields

unplanted over winter so

that crop diseases go away.

Cold weather can freeze bare

soils in place to stop them

being carried away by wind.

Snow can protect

grass from freezing

temperatures that

might damage it.

Weathered downstream

Soil taken away by weather is

washed into rivers and carried

out to sea. The soil that took

thousands of years to form is

lost forever.
