T

HE CONFIDENCE

emerging in the office sector
is reflected in this year’s
Scottish Property Awards.
Real estate in Scotland continues
to go from strength to strength,
says Fiona Morton, chair of the
Judging Panel.
Among the 18 winners were
two double successes. Savills won
Industrial Team of the Year and
Investment Agency Team of the Year.
Ryder Architecture’s Prince &
Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow
won the Innovation in Design award
and Health Care Development of
the Year. The hospice is designed to
put families and patients first and
its design reflects the importance of
therapeutic benefits of the landscape
and surroundings of the building.
For the second year running Drum
Property Group won the Property
Company of the Year award. They
were recognised for their pursuit of
opportunity and ability to deliver
large projects in locations, including
Buchanan Wharf, one of Glasgow’s
largest urban regeneration schemes.
Buchanan Wharf was also one of
six finalists for the PMP Deal of the
Year, selected on measures including
complexity, risk, value and size.
Legal & General UK’s Build-to-Rent
at Buchanan Wharf is the work
of Legal and General Investment
Management, JLL, Savills, Brodies
and Pinsent Masons as well as Drum.
Legal & General will forward-fund
Drum to deliver 324 apartments in
Glasgow’s waterside regeneration
area which will also house the new
Northern European hub of Barclays
Bank. Consisting of two 18-storey
towers, the plans include a gym and a
4,250 sq ft communal roof terrace.
Drum was also part of the deal
team, with The Student Hotel,
Dougray Smith, Brodies and Dentons,
of another finalist, Candleriggs
Square, Glasgow. This would include
a new hotel, build-to-rent apartments,
office space, student accommodation,
and bars centred on a derelict site
bordered by Wilson Street, Brunswick
Street, Trongate and Hutcheson Street.
It is expected to include roof
terraces and space for events. Graeme
Bone, the Drum Property Group
managing director says it will offer
“high-quality housing, hotels, local
amenities and open spaces with new
pedestrian links throughout the site”.
Winner of the PMP Deal of
the Year was JP Morgan Chase’s
European Technology Hub, with

the deal team of Osborne+Co,
Scotsbridge Holdings, Savills & DLA
Piper. The technology hub on Argyle
Street in Glasgow’s International
Finance District, with space for up to
2,700 employees, is to open in 2022.
Its 270,000 sq ft will cover open-plan
floors across 13 storeys. It will be one
of the first buildings created under
new energy efficiency and emission
standards.
The Architectural Excellence
