Minecraft’s updates aren ’t
just abou t the stuff that gets
added – you also ha ve to
pay attention to the things
that change. Eachupdate
brings with it alterations
from the pr evious version to
accommodate new additions
or ma ke things more
consistent. Here’s a list of
all the stuff that changed in
version 1.9, and why.
Passive mo bs can no w
enter love mode randomly
so that they have a small
chance to breed without
player interaction.
Moss st one has
been renamed “mossy
cobblestone” for consistency.
Nether br ick fences are
now made with four Nether
brick blocks and two Nether
bricks. The pr evious crafting
recipe is now used to make a
Nether br ick wall.
Smooth sandstone and
smooth red sandstone
have been renamed “cut
sandstone” to distinguish
them from other “smooth”
blocks. Stone slabs have
likewise been renamed
to “smooth stone slabs”
and can now only be
crafted from smooth
stone blocks. The pr eviouscrafting recipe now makes a
diff eren t slab.
Cauldrons can now contain
lava. When fi lled with lava,
they emit light and will
incinerate any entiti es that
are tossed inside.
Tripwires will now activate
when they’re broken
deliberately, except when
shears are used.
White coloured wool is
now renamed white wool.
And fi nally, one of the
biggest change s in recent
memory: mu ltipla yer gamers
can join another player’s
game even if th ere’s a slig ht
version mismatch! Finally, no
more waiting to download the
latest update if your versions
