(or any other value), the equation remains balanced because the
same change is made to both sides.

3b. I multiplied each term on both sides of the equation by 12, which is
the greatest common multiple of each denominator. This allowed
me to solve the problem more efficiently than Maritza because I
eliminated the fractions. I solve the problem in fewer steps and
without having to do so much work with adding, subtracting,
multiplying, and dividing fractions. For me, it’s easier to do
mental math working with whole numbers than with fractions.
