“Even after we purged before the

move, there was simply too much stuff,”

says Anna, a columnist for a sewing

magazine and the author of Handbag

Workshop. The guest room bed was

covered w ith stacks of clothes, the closet

was jam-packed and barely accessible,

and the space was unable to accommodate

overnight visitors.

Enter Patty Morrissey, a professional

organizer who works with Mercari,

an e-commerce company, to help Anna

make her extra bedroom function as

both a tidy dressing room and a cozy

respite for the occasional guest. Patty

guided Anna through the process of

sorting things into piles to throw away,

donate, and sell on an app like Mercari.

Within three days, Anna had made her

first sale: a pair of ballet flats for $18.

After they decluttered, Patty moved
