“Overhundredsofmillennia,we
evolvedinanenvironmentwhere
wehadtoconfrontfrequentperiods
ofundernutrition,”ProfessorRosen-
baumsays.“Soyouwouldpredict
thathumanDNAwouldbefullof
genesthatfavourthestorageofextra
kilojoulesasfat.Thatabilitywould
to some extent increase our ability
resultofyourhighermetabolism.”
DrJensenalsonotesthatit’sdifficult
forpeopletosustaintheworkoutsre-
quiredtokeepthemusclemassthey
gained.“Formost,it’skindofimprac-
tical,”headds.
Overall,hesays,“There’snotany
partoftherestingmetabolismthatyou
havea hugeamountofcontrol over.”
