NataschaViljoenasCEO,fromApril16,followingChris
Griffith’sdecisiontostepdownaftermorethanseven

Viljoenbrings 28 yearsofoperationalexperiencefrom

originallyfromVenezuela,
whowentbythealias‘London
Patient’,wasdeclaredcured
fromthevirusa yearagoafter
undergoinga stemcelltransplant
treatmentforlymphaticcancer.
DoctorssayCastillejo’simmune
systemwasreplacedbythe
transplantafterhisbone-marrow
donorcarrieda mutationthat
preventedtheabilityof HIVto
enterthecells.Thevirushasn’t
beendetectablein the40-year-
old’sblood,semenortissuesfor
30 monthsafterhisanti-retroviral
therapywashalted.Castillejo
toldtheNewYorkTimes: “This
is a uniquepositiontobein,
a uniqueandveryhumbling
position.I wanttobean
ambassador of hope”.

Afterfouryearsofthe#DataMustFallcampaignbySouthAfricans,
telecomsgroupVodacomhasreduceditsdatapricesby30%
beginningApril.In2019,theCompetitionCommissionfoundthat
SouthAfrica’smobiledatapriceswerethehighestontheAfrican
continent,andwarnedmobilenetwork operators in the country to
cut data prices or face prosecution.
