Built

to Last

Who says an

objet d’art can’t be

environmentally

sound? The first

foray by Hermès

into the world

of makeup is a

responsible one:

Rouge Hermès,

its new line of

lipsticks, comes

in refillable

keepsake tubes

that stand alone

as their own

tiny architectural

marvels sculpted

from lacquered,

brushed, and

polished metals.

(When yours

is used up, simply

pop a fresh bullet

into the chamber.)

The two formulas

are inspired by the

signature textures

used to create the

brand’s iconic

bags: a smooth

satin finish

reminiscent of the

Box style and a

hyperpigmented

matte inspired by

Doblis. And in

true French fash-

ion, they’re ever

so slightly scented.

Chic, no?

Skincare That Saves Hives

Bees are dying at an alarming rate, and that could mean catastrophe for our ecosystem. With

pesticides, climate change, and poor care practices wiping out entire colonies, plant pollination

has decreased, which has disrupted the way we grow and harvest food and ingredients—skincare

included. Guerlain has partnered with UNESCO to head off international disaster. The

Guerlain/UNESCO MAB initiative will further study the benefits of pollination in biosphere

reserves to promote biodiversity. The program will also offer training for eight new beekeepers,

enabling apiarists to keep existing hives healthy and to create new ones. This isn’t the first

time Guerlain has invested in the earth’s buzziest helpers: Its Abeille Royale Collection

(abeille is French for “bee”) is formulated with honey harvested from an island off the coast

of Brittany, France, where the company maintains a long-standing research partnership.

An Optimized Salon Experience

Kevin Murphy has had its eye on our ecosystem since its founding in 2003; the signature square

shape of its packaging cuts down on plastic and takes up less shipping space, decreasing the

environmental footprint. But for 2020, the hair-care brand is taking things to the next level by modifying

these packages to be made of 100 percent recycled ocean materials. Additionally, its partnership

with Ecoheads helps salons conserve water: The innovative showerheads installed in sinks use 98 fewer

gallons of water in a single basin per day, so there’s no need to feel guilty during that scalp massage.
