2020-04-01 Harper\'s Bazaar

(Romina) #1
at the
Musée des Arts Décoratifs in
Paris—light up the City of Light. Through it all I’m
happy to say that I’ve never lost my accent or my sense of humor—
and have never had any desire to either. Nothing thrills me more than talent,
and I’m always amazed when I think about the extraordinary people I’ve gotten to
know and work with at Bazaar—legends, like Jean-Paul Goude, Karl Lagerfeld, and Peter
Lindbergh, who were part of many of our most unforgettable stories; and designers, like Maria
Grazia Chiuri, Pierpaolo Piccioli, and Anthony Vaccarello, whom Bazaar was among the first to
recognize early in their careers. There are the artists and filmmakers like Cindy Sherman, Takashi
Murakami, John Baldessari, Pedro Almodóvar, Tim Burton, and Martin Scorsese, who all collaborated
with us so memorably, and the subjects who put their faith in us time and again, allowing us to take them
on adventure after adventure. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with so many outstanding editors,
writers, and stylists—at last count, 16 people from my teams have gone on to become editors in chief
themselves, and a number of our current staffers have been with the magazine for more than a decade
(in some cases, almost two). Ultimately, though, this has all been about you. An editor’s most important
job is to be an advocate for the reader, and from our Fabulous at Every Age franchise to the diverse
range of voices and faces that we’ve featured, I strove to make Bazaar a celebration of all women,
from all over, at every stage of life, and the things that delight, excite, and move them. I’ve
always approached my work with a strong belief in inclusivity and fearlessness, and
I wanted each issue of Bazaar to feel empowering, like a party to which everyone
is invited. Getting to take this journey with you has been a privilege,
an honor, and more fun than I could ever have imagined.
Long may that party continue.
