However, it doesn’t look as though Disney
will sacrifice any of its box-office figures by
launching big-budget movies directly onto
the streaming platform. Following a cinematic
release, it’s anticipated that there will be a gap
of several months before the movies become
available on Disney+. This could impact DVD
and Blu-ray sales, as for the price of half a brand
new release, you will be able to get a month’s
worth of unlimited Disney viewing.

Finally, even though Disney+ is certainly focused
on family entertainment, with Star Wars fans
alone there will be three generations of movie-
goers potentially attracted to the service –an
immense target audience to launch with! Throw
in the National Geographic channel, 30 seasons
of The Simpsons and many FOX TV offerings,
plus a potential partnership with Hulu and ESPN
for bundle packages, and Disney+ could already
be a big hitter in the streaming service market
before the end of the year.
